Nutrition for hay fever & histamine intolerance – low-histamine food list, DAO blockers & recipes
Food Secrets prioritises allergy-friendly foods, shows low-histamine lists, flags DAO blockers & histamine liberators and links cross-allergies (OAS) with seasonal data. The allergy app for Switzerland, Germany & Austria.
Reduce allergies through nutrition
The allergy ranking shows you, in a practical way, which foods are especially well tolerated today.
Two mechanisms: calm acutely & desensitise long-term
1) Reduce symptoms & reactions quickly
- Lower histamine: choose low-histamine foods, avoid DAO blockers, recognise histamine liberators.
- Dampen inflammation: polyphenol-rich foods (e.g. quercetin, EGCG), omega-3, vitamin C, magnesium.
- Mind cross-allergies: in season, peel/heat if needed or use alternatives (see OAS filter).
2) Long-term desensitisation & immune balance
The goal isn't just „symptoms gone“, but a robust system. The app helps you prioritise foods that strengthen the microbiome, support enzyme formation and favourably influence repair processes (e.g. DNA) and epigenetic factors. More on this: Healing effects, Body systems, Strengthen the immune system.
Calm the allergic reaction
Histamine
Prioritise low-histamine alternatives – lower the irritation load.
Liberators & biogenic amines
Recognise and avoid foods that release histamine in good time.
DAO blockers
Avoid DAO blockers; support with nutrients (e.g. B vitamins, Mg).
Food intolerance vs. allergy – how the app helps you
Food intolerances (e.g. lactose, fructose, FODMAP) are not the same as allergies. In the Food Lab you filter, among others, histamine, DAO blockers, biogenic amines, AllergyPotential, OAS markers (birch/grass/mugwort), main season and much more – and quickly find well-tolerated alternatives.
Often well-tolerated examples (check individually): kale, many vegetables, gluten-free grains and, among animal products, often chicken.
Hay fever & cross-allergies (OAS)
With the OAS markers you filter foods that often react with birch, grasses or mugwort. Season windows (MainSeasonFrom/To) help with planning.
- Cross-allergy birch – foods: filter by the OasBirch marker.
- Cross-allergy grasses – foods: activate the OasGrass marker.
- Mugwort pollen: filter with OasMugwort; in season, rather avoid problematic raw products.
Tip: in season, peeling/heating can improve tolerance; the list shows alternatives.
Looking for a histamine food table or a
low-histamine food overview? The OAS filters & season info help you
deliberately choose pollen-friendly alternatives.
Cross-allergies (OAS) between pollen and foods are common – the app flags OAS risks and shows pollen-friendly alternatives.
Birch pollen
Filter with OasBirch – choose alternatives, peel/heat raw if needed.
Grass pollen
Activate the OasGrass marker – compare pollen-friendly options.
Mugwort
Filter with OasMugwort; mind the season window in the table.
Use the season cleverly
Via MainSeasonFrom/To you see when your pollen is active – and plan meals with a lower irritation load.
Food table & allergy ranking – the best foods at a glance
The food table bundles 150+ nutrients per food, phytonutrients (e.g. quercetin, EGCG, sulforaphane), histamine notes, DAO blockers, histamine liberators, AllergyPotential, OAS and season into a clear allergy ranking. Result: „which foods are best tolerated today?“
So you make evidence-based decisions every day – without guesswork.
Plus: DAO-blocker food list, histamine-liberator notes and low-histamine recipes linked directly.

FAQ – allergies, hay fever, histamine
Which app for hay fever & allergies?
Food Secrets rates foods by their allergy profile (incl. histamine, DAO blockers, histamine liberators, potential allergens) and shows lower-risk alternatives – including recipe features and reminders.
Which foods are low in histamine?
Depending on individual tolerance, especially fresh, minimally processed products. In Food Secrets you find a low-histamine food list, an allergy ranking and notes on histamine-lowering factors (e.g. vitamin B6, magnesium, quercetin).
What are DAO-blocker foods?
Substances that inhibit the histamine-degrading enzyme DAO (e.g. alcohol, black tea). The app has a DAO-blocker list and clear warnings.
What to eat with hay fever?
Using the OAS markers (birch/grass/mugwort) and season filters, choose pollen-friendly alternatives. Peel or heat problematic raw products if needed; the app shows suitable alternatives.
Allergy or food intolerance – what's the difference?
Allergies are immune reactions; intolerances usually affect digestion (e.g. lactose, fructose, FODMAPs). The Food Lab allows filters for both areas.
Are there low-histamine recipes in the app?
Yes. You can import recipes or generate your own from well-tolerated ingredients. The app calculates nutrients, takes histamine/OAS notes into account and creates your shopping list.
How does the app help short-term and long-term?
Short-term it reduces irritants (histamine, liberators, inflammation). Long-term it prioritises foods that support the microbiome, enzyme formation, DNA protection and epigenetic processes – for a more stable immune balance.
Which app for histamine intolerance?
Food Secrets offers a low-histamine food overview with notes on DAO blockers and histamine liberators plus nutrient factors (e.g. vitamin B6, magnesium) and phytonutrients like quercetin. You can import recipes or create them from well-tolerated ingredients – nutrients & shopping list are added automatically.
